National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) within the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services of the U.S. Department of Education is a federal program that provides leadership and support for a comprehensive program of research related to the rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities. All of the programmatic efforts of NIDRR are aimed at improving the lives of individuals with disabilities from birth through adulthood.

Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) develops and implements comprehensive,coordinated programs of vocational rehabilitation, supported employment and independent living for individuals with disabilities in order to maximize their employability, independence and integration into the workplace and the community.

Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) is an interdisciplinary association of people with a common interest in technology and disability. The purpose of RESNA is to improve the potential of people with disabilities to achieve their goals through the use of technology. RESNA serves that purpose by promoting research, development, education, advocacy and provision of technology and by supporting the people engaged in these activities.

University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Department of Occupational Therapy is one of the oldest and most respected occupational therapy program in the United States. The integration of education, research, and clinical practice is the hallmark of the UIC occupational therapy program. The Department offers two advanced graduate programs-Masters of Science for post professional students and a PhD in Disability Studies jointly with the Departments of Physical Therapy and Disability and Human Development.

The Department is committed to preparing professionals to advance the quality of health care and its related aspects of human development, performance, and adaptation.
